In this relentless, powerful play, an old man named Gott runs a bookstore in Vermont with his granddaughter Eva, when their peaceful life there is turned upside down by the appearance of a customer, Lilah, who accuses Gott of being the doctor who performed unspeakable experiments on her mother at Auschwitz. Thus begins a journey into a nightmare labyrinth of charges and counter charges in which Gott presents a very different picture of what happened, insisting that he was a prisoner there.
